Lead Design Engineer - Power & Water, Oil & Gas

Our core businesses encompass Marine and Offshore, Energy (Power & Water, Oil & Gas), and Infrastructure Projects and our Engineering Department addresses the multidisciplinary Engineering needs covering the full spectrum of EPC projects.

 

We are constantly growing and are currently looking for a Lead Design Engineer of either the following Engineering disciplines to join our Engineering Department and assist the company in enhancing its engineering proficiency: Process, Mechanical (Static, Rotating equipment, Material Selection, HVAC/Plumbing), Electrical, Piping, and Instrumentation (Instrumentation, Automation & Control, Communication).

 

Role Summary:

You will undertake and perform accurately and confidently design tasks of your engineering discipline at all stages of a project (from feasibility to detailed design), while leading effectively other team members under your supervision.

 

What you will need to do:

  • Prepare design deliverables of your Engineering discipline during tender preparation or during project execution including but not limited to studies, reports, drawings, specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, etc.
  • Assist in the selection of optimum solutions/systems/equipment through analysis of information, proposals, and evaluation of results
  • Assess the potential risks of specific engineering designs and assist in the development of alternative design solutions/systems that better meet project requirements
  • Collaborate with and/or review the work of external consultants at tender and project implementation phases
  • Ensure compliance with applicable design engineering codes and standards, project (HSE, HAZOP, EIA, QRA, etc.), statutory, and safety requirements
  • Perform technical bid evaluations of vendor offers and technical review of vendor drawings and documents, for conformance with contract requirements
  • Assist the Engineering Team Managers, or Project Engineering Managers in the organisation of the project/tender team, the distribution of engineering work, as well as in the forecast of design workload
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the project teams and clients
  • Assist in executing and coordinating assignments within agreed budget and schedule
  • Consistently keep abreast of new design, construction methods, equipment and technologies. Keep up to date with applicable International and Local Codes, Standards and Legislation
  • Assist in the effective training and development of the team members under your supervision
  • Participate in design review meetings, 3D Model Reviews, etc., as well as reviews by third parties

 

What you will need to have:

  • BE or equivalent in pertinent Engineering Field (Process/Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls) or related Engineering, and an MSc (preferably in an international English-speaking University in Europe or USA) or equivalent in relevant field of expertise
  • Minimum seven (7) years of relevant design experience in works related to Oil & Gas and Power & Water major projects.
  • Technically competence and strong technical background related to your discipline as breaks down below:
    • Process: Feasibility studies, Conceptual design, Front End Engineering Design and process design for various process systems in Oil & Gas and Power Generation industry. Operating philosophies, equipment and instrumentation process data sheets, systems duty specifications. Process Flow Diagrams, P&I Diagrams, etc. Verification of process design during tender stage. Detailed process design calculations and development of basic process design. Process design simulations and safety systems basic design. Deep knowledge of International design standards related to process design and safety (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA etc.). Proficiency in engineering process and flow simulation software (e.g., AspenHYSYS, AspenEDR, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, SimSci PROII, PIPENET, PIPESIM). Experience in use of hazard analysis software packages (e.g., Phast DNV) would be an advantage.
    • Mechanical: Rotating equipment (Pumps, Gas Turbines, Centrifugal Compressors, Reciprocating Compressors, Diesel Engines). Static equipment (pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, fired heaters, boilers and specialty mechanical equipment). Pipe stress analysis. Deep knowledge of International design standards related to mechanical design (e.g., ASME, API, EN, PED, MSS, NFPA, AWWA, etc.). Proficiency in mechanical engineering leading design software (e.g., Caesar, PV Elite).  Experience in 3D design software would be a definite advantage (PDS 3D, SMART PLANT 3D).
    • Instrumentation and Controls: Field instrumentation as well as control and safety systems (DCS, ESD, SIS, PLC, SCADA etc), Functional specifications, Data sheets, Instrument lists, IO lists, Block diagrams, Material requisitions, logic diagrams, loop drawings, tie-in points for various mechanical equipment such as loading arms, pumps, storage tanks and piping, desalination plants, etc. Deep knowledge of International design standards related to instrumentation design of control systems and field instruments (e.g. ANSI/ISA, API, EN, IEC, NFPA etc.). Proficiency in engineering instrument leading commercial design software (e.g. InstruCalc, SPI/INtools). 
    • Electrical: Electrical power generating and distribution systems including the relevant electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, load schedules, cable schedules, one-line diagrams, layout drawings, material take-off (MTO) and technical bid evaluations. Detailed electrical design calculations (e.g., load calculations, cable and equipment sizing, lighting calculations etc.) and development of basic electrical design. Also experience with High Voltage substations would be an advantage. Deep knowledge of International design standards related to electrical design (e.g. ANSI, EN, IEC, BS, IEEE, NEC, etc.). Proficiency in engineering electrical leading commercial design software (e.g., ETAP).
    • Piping: Plot plans and Key plans. Process and utilities piping networks including the relevant piping arrangements/layouts and isometric drawings, piping specifications, material take-off (MTO), technical bid evaluations, etc.  Deep knowledge of International design standards related to piping design (e.g. ASME, API, ASTM, EN, PED, PIP, AWWA. NFPA, etc.). Proficiency in piping leading commercial design software and experience in 3D design (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, CADworks, PDS 3D, SMART PLAN 3D). Experience in pipeline design (onshore and offshore) is also desirable.
  • Work experience in an international environment will constitute an important advantage
  • Proficiency in major commercial software pertinent to his/her Engineering discipline
  • Must have very good knowledge of applicable international codes & standards, international design guidelines & recommendations pertaining to his/her discipline
  • Experience in Environmental regulatory requirements (local, international), review and understanding of local Environmental Laws would be a definite advantage
  • Mobility is highly desirable to participate in working teams at Archirodon’s project home offices throughout the countries that Archirodon executes its EPC projects
  • Excellent command (written and oral) of the English language
  • Good command of the French language would be a definite advantage
